Automatic Delineation of Focal Cortical Dysplasia Lesions on MRI
نویسندگان
چکیده
Rationale: MRI has allowed the recognition of focal cortical dysplasia (FCD) in an increasing number of patients. The precise delineation of FCD is important since freedom from seizures after surgery is closely related to the extent of resection of the pathological tissue. FCD lesions are difficult to delineate on MRI due to their ill-defined boundaries and the complexity of the cortex. We previously developed an automatic classifier that successfully detected FCD in the majority of cases (Antel et al. Neuroimage 2003; 19: 1748-59). However, the classifier sampled on average only 20% of the lesion extent. Our purpose was to design and evaluate an automatic method for accurate delineation of FCD on MRI.

Segmentation of focal cortical dysplasia lesions on MRI using level set evolution.
Focal cortical dysplasia (FCD) is the most frequent malformation of cortical development in patients with medically intractable epilepsy. On MRI, FCD lesions are not easily differentiable from the normal cortex and defining their spatial extent is challenging. In this paper, we introduce a method to segment FCD lesions on T1-weighted MRI. It relies on two successive three-dimensional deformable...
متن کاملA level set driven by MR features of focal cortical dysplasia for lesion segmentation
Focal cortical dysplasia (FCD), a malformation of cortical development, is an important cause of medically intractable epilepsy. FCD lesions are difficult to distinguish from non-lesional cortex and their delineation on MRI is a challenging task. This paper presents a method to segment FCD lesions on T1-weighted MRI, based on a 3D deformable model, implemented using the level set framework. The...

Focal cortical dysplasia (FCD), a malformation of cortical development, is an important cause of pharmacoresistant epilepsy. Small FCD lesions are difficult to distinguish from normal cortex and remain often overlooked on radiological MRI inspection. This paper presents a method to detect small FCD lesions on T1-MRI relying on surface-based features that model their textural and morphometric ch...
متن کاملFocal Cortical Dysplasia (FCD) lesion analysis with complex diffusion approach
Identification of Focal Cortical Dysplasia (FCD) can be difficult due to the subtle MRI changes. Though sequences like FLAIR (fluid attenuated inversion recovery) can detect a large majority of these lesions, there are smaller lesions without signal changes that can easily go unnoticed by the naked eye. The aim of this study is to improve the visibility of focal cortical dysplasia lesions in th...
متن کاملTexture Analysis of MRI Assists in the Detection of Focal Cortical Dysplastic Lesions
Background. Focal cortical dysplasia (FCD) is a frequent cause of medically intractable partial epilepsy of extra-temporal lobe origin. MRI characteristics of focal cortical dysplasia include cortical thickening, poor distinction between gray and white matter transition, and white matter abnormalities such as clusters of abnormal neurons. In many cases, FCD can be detected on MRI, facilitating ...
